Typical questions & answers.

Typical and most common method to install the herringbone parquet is glue down onto existing subfloor (eg. plywood or concrete screed). The subfloor must be level and dry (concrete under 3% CM, plywood 10-15%). Additionaly you can apply concrete floor primer to promote key for used adhesive. We recommend to use widely known brands eg. Lecol, Wakol, Bona, Sika, Uzin, Ball. for both primer and glue. When fitting herringbone parquet in your room is best to start from the middle laing first row as straight and tight as possible. After a while when advesive is dry you can install the parquet on both sides of first herringbone row.

Most of the Massive Parquet products can also be nailed down or floated. This depents of the type of the subfloor and size of the parquet. Should you have any questions regarding your flooring please contact our technical line.

It's not recommended to use solid hardwood flooring on underfloor heating due to the risk of wood shrinking and capping. High heat insulation level of the wood affects efficiency of the UFH.

Most of our traditional parquet is available from stock for immediate dispatch. The Chevron parquet and design panels are made on order only - this takes usually 1-3 weeks.

All depends what type of surface you want to achive. If you looking for authentic wood look to fit in your old barn you can apply the finish directly on the parquet blocks (oil or hardwax oil will give you best results). But if you want to have completely smooth satin surface you should follow following steps.

  • 1st Sanding 40-80 Grit (belt 9+ Edge Sander)
  • Gap filling using Lecol 7500 filler
  • 2nd Sanding 60-120 Grit (belt 9+ Edge Sander)
  • Corrective Gap Filling
  • 3rd Polishing Sanding (Polishing Buffer or Trio Sander)
  • Vacuum Cleaning, Sealing

We also offer pre-sanded parquet that require only light polishing sand before sealing

There is several types of wood flooring finishes that you can apply directly on the floor.

  • Oil - most natural but require regular maintenance
(eg. Woca Master Oil, Bona Oil, Junckers Rustic Oil, Fiddes Oil)
  • Hardwax Oil - combination of natural product and protective layer
(eg. Osmo Polyx Oil, Treatex Hardwax Oil, Rubio Monocoat)
  • Domestic Primer + Lacquer - tough finish creating protecting sheet on the top of the floor
    (eg. Junckers Strong, Bona Mega)
  • Commercial Primer + Lacquer - toughest finish with minimal maintenance requirements
(eg. Junckers HP Commercial, Bona Traffic, Ronseal Contractor)

If you want to give your floor additional colour you can use stains before applying above finishes or coloured oils (eg. Junckers Rustic Oil Colour, Bona Craft Oil, Blanchon Hardwax Oil)

The best solution is to remove any loose parts of bitumen residue and apply barrier seal coat eg. Sika MB. Alternatively you can use on your own risk following products that are widly used by parquet specialists regardless its limited application.
